Greetings from Idaho—also known as the only place where I wear cowboy boots in a non-costume-y way. My mom and I hatched a last minute plan to surprise my dad, and so I could help them unpack at their new house. I've actually never been to Sun Valley in the fall, and I'm so excited to see the Aspen trees in all their autumnal color-changing glory.
With daytime highs in the 50s and low 60s and temperatures in the evening dipping into the 30s, I packed my suitcase full of layering pieces that have a rustic, mountain-y feel. Cowboy boots in Idaho are a real thing, and while I always borrow my mom's all-black vintage pair, I'm lusting after this pair of brand-new Ariat boots that have a super-classic vibe. Same goes for a crazy-affordable Uniqlo cashmere-blend turtleneck sweater (on sale for $40!) and this Goorin Bros hat—which will serve as the perfect update for my rather worn-in Madewell hat from a few years back. All together and topped off with my beloved Barbour jacket (which sold out, but I'm obsessed with this one)—I feel like I'll have that whole chic-but-rugged-for-fall thing down.
Also in my suitcase is a cozy pair of men's camp socks (less than $10 at Old Navy) for hanging out fireside, some good plaids and obviously more than one bandana. For dinner out, a denim skirt (trendy button-front for less than $55, anyone?) and I've been dying to try this R+Co dry shampoo paste that Meghan introduced me to when we were in Boston this spring. (Which is much easier to travel with than a spray bottle.)
On that note, shop my Sun Valley essentials below, while I sort through storage boxes searching for things my parents won't miss and I can send back to New York...
