{ Bridge & Burn dress (c/o) / Velvet turtleneck / Schott 'Perfecto' jacket / Vince ankle boots (sold out, similar) / Madewell plaid scarf (old, similar) / Club Monaco beanie (men's) / Ray-Ban aviators }

Okay guys so here I am—trying to live up to the promises I made in my last personal style post. I am trying to wear more dresses this winter. This particular day—Martin Luther King Day—was something like 30 degrees, with a windchill of about 18 degrees. Not an ideal day to go sans pants. However, these reversible DKNY tights have two layers, making them even warmer than some of my jeans.

The layering (and elastic waistband, natch) made for the perfect weekday brunch outfit. Amanda and I made a day of it, and had a decadent meal at Freeman's followed by a little happy hour and brainstorm across the street at Loreley.

Initially, my plan was to show you how absolutely darling this plaid shirtdress from Bridge and Burn is, but the freezing temperatures demanded another layer. I went with this long-ish, ultra-cozy turtleneck sweater (last seen here). I love this little flannel dress, though. The fit is awesome, it's soft, and it plays well with my other winter favorites. (Shop more plaid shirtdresses here.)

Wiser women would not have worn a cropped leather jacket on a day such as this, however, I would never claim to be wise. I thought it looked cute with the plaid and I figured you guys had seen enough of my favorite long Club Monaco coat, no? The whole effect is sort of edgy, sort of preppy and on the whole, much more print-heavy than my usual uniform! (Shop more black leather jackets here, and more black beanies here.)

While I can't say for sure how much more enthusiasm I will be able to maintain for this whole dresses-in-winter thing, I can say that I leave the house feeling much more feminine, if not quite a bit more frigid. Playing around with layering is a lot of fun this way, and I surprised myself by willingly wearing more than one print at a time... In a fashion moment where all I seem to want to wear is black, white and navy forever and ever until I'm dead.
