{PERSONAL STYLE} MY KIND OF VALENTINE...

{ Club Monaco hat (similar) / Aritzia peacoat (similar) / Madewell scarf (sold out, similar

As I mentioned in this post, Valentine's Day on the whole doesn't really phase me. I am a single person, yes, but I also enjoy chocolate, the color red and romantic comedies all year long. Most years I stay in and cook dinner with girlfriends, as there is really no way to win if you're out at the bars. I'm always looking for a way to acknowledge this day that is centered around love (which I totally support) but doesn't make me feel sad to be single or like I'm snubbing my nose at happy couples who really enjoy celebrating their relationship on Valentine's Day.

One thing I miss about Valentine's Day as a kid? Presents. Lame but true, I'm afraid. Remember the days when you'd make a Valentine card for everyone in your class at school? You came home with a "mailbox" full of cards and candy. Those were the days. What's a single, stylish adult woman to do? Enter: Lyst. Lyst is a fresh kind of online shopping destination—a one-stop-shop that brings virtually every fashion e-tailer together in one place. You can program sale alerts and keep up with your favorite brands' latest arrivals and shop them, too.

Lyst came to the rescue with my kind of Valentine...

Lyst invited my dear and darling friend Meghan—of Wit & Whimsy, natch— to treat each other to Valentine's Love With Lyst: an idea I could really get behind. Meghan and I each created a Lyst of gifts we thought the other would like, and then surprised each other with one of the items we selected. What could be better than an indulgent treat from a girlfriend who really knows me?

I shouldn't be surprised that Meghan absolutely blew me away with her pick—this cherry red bucket bag from Elizabeth and James. She knows I have a serious thing for bucket bags right now, but I had no idea I'd love a red bag so much. Lately I've been in an all-black-and-navy all the time mood, and this bag is such a vivid shade of red I probably never would have chosen it for myself. But now that I've carried it to work and what not, I'm not sure what my life even was before a red bag. Remember that thing I said before about wearing red all year...

And for her? I love Meghan's sophisticated and feminine approach to dressing, and I know she has a sweet spot for accessories designer Sophie Hulme. So, I decided to step up her mini-bag game and give her a sleek black leather crossbody bag she could wear with just about anything in her (existing, fabulous) wardrobe. Practical and luxe, what could be better?
