{GETAWAY GIRL} 2014'S BEST TRAVEL ADVENTURES...

{ snapshots from my 2014 travels, taken from my Instagram }

I was reading my Susan Miller horoscopes for the month of December recently (both Libra and Scorpio, naturally), and she was very apologetic about how hard 2014 was for me, and promised that 2015 would see some of that hardship rewarded. In many ways this was a huge relief. However, I was also #blessed with quite a few occasions to be grateful this year—especially when it came to travel. From beaches to mountains to very big waterfalls, I feel so lucky to have experienced places both fresh and familiar with friends, family—and one time, #solo.

CLICK THROUGH BELOW...
STRATTON, VERMONT: Over President's Day weekend, ten of us rented a cozy ski-in-ski-out condo at this darling Vermont ski resort. It was beautiful, fun and in the midst of the Winter Olympics, but man was it freezing. We made the most of our three days with skiing, plenty of après ski beers, hot tubbing, home-cooking and fireside game nights.
OCEAN CITY, NEW JERSEYI may not have made it to The Hamptons this summer, but spending three days in Ocean City, New Jersey with five of my favorite New York girls more than made up for it. Thanks to GM's Drive The District, we were able to pile all our weekend bags and bottles of rosé into one fabulous Chevy Tahoe, and enjoy the shore on our own schedule. From lazy beach days to croquet on the lawn and chasing the sunset with the windows down—it was an epic summer weekend.
NEWPORT BEACH, CALIFORNIA: Heading west to visit Tully's family in Newport Beach for the 4th of July was part of what made this such an amazing summer. Bike rides, Mai Tai's, home-cooked meals, boats and beaches were the only items on the itinerary—all of which were executed to perfection.
SUN VALLEY + McCALL, IDAHO: My family has deep ties to Idaho, so any time I get to return, I'm a happy, nostalgic and peaceful girl. In Sun Valley, I had my first turn as a bridesmaid, standing behind my great friend Alex. After the festivities, my mom and drove to McCall for a few days of nothing but hiking, swimming, stand-up paddling and a requisite trip to Burgdorf Hot Springs.
SEATTLE, WASHINGTON:  Ah, home. I hadn't spent time in Seattle during the summer months since before I moved to New York—so being back in the prime weather of August was a dream. I got to drive my 1997 Ford Explorer with the windows down and the radio cranked, take more than a few dips in Lake Washington at my neighborhood beach club, and spent a ton of time just relaxing (eating & drinking) with my family. Oh, and I married off two of my best guy friends over two consecutive weekends. That was pretty okay, too.
NIAGARA FALLS, ONTARIO, CANADA: As excited as we were before embarking on this whirlwind 36-hour trip, all the photos and YouTube videos in the world could not prepare us for how much we loved Niagara. With three of my best friends and a car provided by Drive The District, I couldn't have had a better time. Over-the-top tourism, Mother Nature's Power and fall colors came together for a perfect weekend.
WHITEHOUSE, JAMAICA: Ah, #SoloAtSandals. There's not much I can say here that I didn't cover in my post soon after the trip. I was so happy to finally visit the Caribbean, and couldn't have asked for a better host in the Jamaican people. It was a strange and awesome weekend.

I'M ALREADY ANXIOUS TO START PLANNING TRIPS FOR 2015. ON MY LIST? MONTREAL, MAINE AND THE POCONOS—SO FAR. WHAT ABOUT YOU? FORGET RESOLUTIONS, WHAT ARE YOUR TRAVEL GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR?
