{STYLING NOTES} SCARF, BLANKET, BLANKET SCARF?

As I lamented in my recent post about turtlenecks, fall temperatures have been slow to arrive here in New York City. Yesterday it was 65 degrees, which, in early November, is kind of insane, right? Consequently, I've had a really hard time getting dressed each day. I'm ready for layers, sweaters and even beanies—but it's still mild enough for bare ankles.

Last year I bought this generously sized Madewell scarf, which has seen more than its fair share of wear. At the time it was the dead of winter, so I happily bundled it about my neck with coats and hats for an extra layer of defense against the #polarvortex. Now, I've been wearing it draped around my shoulders instead of a jacket. It's a blanket, it's a scarf, it's both. It makes me feel kind-of like a grandma, and kind-of like a cool girl—and I guess that's a pretty ideal mix, no? Yesterday, I wore it with silky cropped pants from Zara and a silk equipment blouse (with the above slip-ons, too), and it looked like I had mistakenly arrived at work in my pajamas—in sort of luxe, stylish way.

Anyway, I'm kind of obsessed with oversized scarves now, and want to beef up my fall wardrobe with a few more to put in rotation. ASOS has by far the largest collection for the best prices (most are around $35!), but I also found some great options from Madewell, Free People, and Rag & Bone.

Wear yours now as a poncho-esque wrap, and into the winter as an extra-cozy, statement-making scarf.
