I will admit freely that working alongside a beauty editor is one of the biggest perks of my day job. I frequently get to try new hair, skincare and beauty products that I'd never choose for myself otherwise. (I recently tested beer shampoo and conditioner, for example.) Naturally, there have been successes and failures, and I've discovered plenty of new obsessions. I am no expert, but I figured I'd share a few of my favorites with you.

HAIR: As you may have guessed after reading this post, my hair can be a bit of an obsession for me. I get it cut about once a year, and every time it's only because my ends start to look like I got up close and personal with an electrical socket. Lately, I have been obsessed with the shine and softness I get from Living Proof's Perfect Hair Day conditioner. It's hands-down the best conditioner this drugstore brand devotee has ever used. I also recently got my hands on Oribe's Grandiose Hair Plumping Mousse, which is unreal. (Crazy-good volume, amazing smell.) As I'm sure most of you are, I'm a member of the cult of dry shampoo, and use it on my non-wash days before pulling my hair into a top-knot or low bun with my fav (gentle) Twistband ties.

SKIN: My skin has always been a problem for me, which is hard to admit, especially as an adult. However, it's condition has been vastly improved of late after taking up a pretty consistent mask routine at home. Once a week before bed, I give my face a nice scrub with St. Ives Apricot Scrub and then use First Aid Beauty's Skin Rescue Purifying Mask, followed by Dr. Jart Premium Time Returning Cream. (I did a little interview with Dr. Jart recently, too!)

BEAUTY: When it comes to makeup, I've pretty much been doing it the same way since I was about 16. I favor a strongly-lined eye with no shadow and just a hint of lip. (I like to think it's a very Audrey Hepburn-meets-Blair Waldorf in Gossip Girl season 2 look.) I've recently been working to perfect my slightly winged top-liner look—thanks in large part to this genius little double-ended liner from NYX. I create the line with the liquid end, and fill in with the crayon. I also use just a swipe of Benefit's Fine One-One on my cheeks, as well as their brow pencil to fill in and define. On days when I don't do liner, I swear by Nars Heat Wave matte lipstick. It's worth all $26 and flattering on everyone I've ever seen wear it. (You're welcome.)

NAILS: Getting a $5 polish change on my street is one of the ultimate little luxuries of my pretty minimal beauty routine. Until it gets truly warm, I'll keep rocking a dark purple like Essie's Wicked or my all-time favorite red, OPI's Big Apple Red.
