It's not my usual habit to share too much of what I do over on Lifestyle Mirror with you guys here. However, for this story I'm going to make an exception. I spent hours (and hours) on a fairly comprehensive review of the best red carpet looks from the Academy Awards of the last 20 years.
Why didn't I go back further? To Audrey in Givenchy and Grace in Edith Head? Quite simply, I wanted to focus on what's modern. Sure, epic moments of vintage fashion are always a joy to look back upon, but for me, what's truly fun to relive is how trends and styling have evolved during the time that you and I have been paying attention to it all. We remember Gwyneth in Ralph Lauren in 1999. We remember Michelle Williams in that marigold Vera Wang in 2006.
Looking back no further than the 1990s also allows for the greatest debates. Most people aren't going to split hairs over whether Audrey Hepburn actually looked good in her Hubert de Givenchy dress in 1954. But Cate Blanchett in Givenchy Haute Couture in 2011? That's something we can discuss.
Check out the story here, and look out for puns.
