{ a few Instagrams from my holiday vacation }

I finally returned to New York City late Sunday night after a staggering 20 days away. I say staggering because I can't quite believe I was lucky enough to get so much vacation time and because it's quite the sensation to return to Manhattan after breathing in so much of that fresh West Coast air.

I spent the first week of my vacation working (go figure) from a cozy couch in front of the fire in Seattle. I caught up with old friends, celebrated Christmas with my extended family and drove my 1997 Ford Explorer every chance I got. Next, my parents and I packed up the car, grabbed Zoe The Dog and hit the road for a quick 11 hour road trip to Sun Valley, Idaho.

Unfortunately, the big snows have missed our beloved ski town, so things on the main mountain were rather grim (and icy!). We spent most of our days north of town at Galena, snowshoeing and cross-country skiing. I got to spend lots of time with my family as well as seeing my usual gang of friends who decamp from Seattle for SV every year after Christmas.

The trip culminated gloriously at the New Year's Eve wedding of one of my best friends from high school, where I finally got to wear my favorite new little Club Monaco frock.

As per usual, I packed my entire closet for the journey, and ended up wearing just a few key things. I wore either my BDG black jeans or Paige Verdugo skinnies everyday, as well as the best wide-brim Stetson hat from Byrnie Utz in downtown Seattle. My mom and I got matching ones (top left) customized with grosgrain ribbons rather than leather bands for a sleek, city-ready look. (When it was too cold for that, I relied on my trusty men's Club Monaco beanie.)
