HEY BABY, WHAT'S YOUR SIGN?

Astrologists say that Scorpios are typically stubborn, intensely passionate, secretive, possessive and focused. I've always loved what my star sign stands for, at least in an abstract way. However, I've never really identified with Scorpio's most marked characteristics. Checking it out in the back of my favorite magazines or dabbling in Susan Miller's thoughts -- Scorpio just never really clicked.

On Tuesday night my roommate was reading up on her sign (Sagittarius) for no particular reason, so I thought I might do the same. Reading on various websites about all that Scorpios are said to be, I felt nothing. This just isn't really me, I thought. Then I had another thought: I was born only 5 days after the transition from Libra to Scorpio, so maybe some of Libra's characteristics could have runneth over into my astrological cup.

Boy do they. Libra is me, to a fault. (And as it turns out, my mom recalled that I may have been born after my due date.) Why I had never thought to explore this possibility before, I'm not sure. I think I just wanted to believe that Scorpio's fiery passion, secretive ways and stubborn nature were latent in me, waiting to manifest when my life truly warranted it.  I'm 27. That seems unlikely at this point.

What struck me about the balanced Libra (the scales)? Their most marked characteristics include being sociable, accommodating, likable, indecisive and artistic. They are easygoing people-pleasers, have a love for "the finer things," are slightly vain and can be rather passive-aggressive. Mmhmm. The good and the bad, that sounds about right. As I continued to read into the more detailed descriptions of typical Libras, I felt like I was finally understanding why so many people trust and believe in the zodiac.  I felt that click.

So here I am, born a Scorpio but feeling like a Libra. What do I do? What does this mean? Can I just consider myself a Libra from now on, and become fanatical about following a daily horoscope for a sign that isn't really mine?

I want to know, are you guys into astrology?
Do you identify with your star sign?
Do you read your horoscope regularly?

(I have a lot of questions, clearly.)

*I read up on the signs over at Cafe Astrology, which was pleasant and detailed enough, but I'm dying for some good resources now!

  1. i read mine time to time...but i'm not obsessed with astrology like some of my friends. i'm a pisces and my hubby is a scorpio...and even though we are both on the cusp our personalities are very much defined by our signs

  2. although i'm not a daily follower of my horoscope, i believe it to be true! i am a capricorn and MAN it's scarily true. so interesting about yours.. i'd say go for being a libra then! i was born eight days after due date, but would've been capricorn either way.

  3. Wow, I am a scorpio as well and never really identified with the characteristic traits. All of the Libra ones sounded like me! Alas I am actually a Sag-Scorpio cusp rather than a Libra one. I relate to this article in a big way. Very interesting. Thanks!

  4. I've never been too into the astrology thing, I think part of me hates the idea of being assigned a personality, but anytime I've read anything about Libras (which is what I am) it usually jives pretty closely with my personality, so I don't really know what to make of it! If you've never done a Meyers-Briggs test I highly recommend it, those things are scary accurate!

    1. That's so funny that you mention it Robyn, my girlfriend told me last night I should do a Meyers-Briggs test. Think I'll be doing that this weekend :)

    2. the myers-briggs is wilder than astrology. i am an INFP, through and through.

  5. I am TOTALLY a Gemini.... Except that I've worked on my downfalls and don't exhibit the negative qualities that most Geminis do. However, it is still sometimes my first inclination and I have to work against. I totally love and embrace all the positive aspects of myself too. I'm a go-getter and I'm passionate about everything. I have a finger in every pie!

I just found you on Pinterest and I'm following you now. I especially love your "Get in my closet" board.

  6. 2 things about this post that caught my attention:
    1. The post title due to the similarity in tone with ..Hey Baby won't you look my way (Everybody talks song ..on my playlist atm):)
    2. I was sitting with my friend (a Scorpio)and I am a Saggi #Coincidence and how we get excited when that happens!

As for the astrology part, I do flip to the end of a magazine but hardly relate. But recently I just came across Susan Miller's monthly forecast and boy it was creepily true..most of the points!Check her out here: http://www.astrologyzone.com/

..I'am from India, where eCommerce is going HUGE right now (especially online fashion stores)so I write a lot on that.Do check out my blog :)

  7. I am born on the cusp (which means some say I am an aries, while others say I am a taurus). I always read both and i always identify more with the aries side of me. When people ask I usually say I am an aries. I love horoscopes and think they can be really fun! If you identify more with another sign, and you were probably mean to be a Libra...go for it!

  8. this means that i am only like a couple weeks older than you! my birthday is 10-10-85 and just like you, fit libra EXACTLY. i hardly read about libra traits, but when i do, it usually freaks me out because it fits me so well. never know where to go out for meals (constantly indecisive), can ALWAYS see 2 sides to the story (i feel way too much sympathy during the nightly news, which is why i just avoid it), i can get vain (i always like to say "YES! THE SONG IS ABOUT ME!"), and basically put loved ones needs and wants before mine, which can definitely suck sometimes, but being such a "people-pleaser", i justify with myself why it is the right thing to do. and yeah, all the other stuff you typed out applies to me also. hahaha!

  9. Girl I could have told you you were a Libra (as am I)... and Libra's find each other... aka why I love you! PS: You need to find out your "rising sign" because that's your true sign! ;)

    1. WHAAAAAT That is so amazing, and then again, not surprising! Now I'm off to find out my rising sign...

    2. 1. Alicia is exactly right - find your rising sign by putting your birth date, time, and location into this chart that calculates where the earth was ascending at the time of your birth - http://alabe.com/freechart/ (weird sounding, but cool too!) It could possibly be Libra, or another Air sign (Gemini, Aquarius) based on how much you relate to those.

      2. I'm a cusp sign too (Pisces-Aries) and def understand how you feel.

      3. You're rising sign is said to be "the mask you wear to the world" or, who you are in social settings, work, social media, etc. whereas your sun sign (for you, Scorpio) is who you are at the core of your being. So I always think of it as like when I'm really mad, or with my family/closest friends I can tend to have more Pisces/Aries traits rather than my rising sign (Aquarius).

      4. Also just a note - my mom is a Scorpio, with Scorpio rising, and she is NOTHING like Scorpio traits. Kind of funny/coincidental. I also think a lot of Scorpio traits are painted negatively when really they're just no-nonsense, passionate people.

      5. Obviously I love astrology, and your blog, and because of you, discoverd the Knocks, have seen them twice in DC and my bff got them to sign a tshirt for me for my birthday! So thanks for sharing!

  10. This is so interesting. I am a Scorpio and have always identified with many of the characteristics. It sounds like you must be on the cusp-- Many of my best friends are Libras and I love them! Thank you so much for sharing-- this makes me want to get back into reading astrology.... It's been a while. Let me know if you find any more favorite astrology sites for more insight!
