{high maintenance} the SUILTSOY beauty corner...

A long, long time ago I wrote a singular post about my beauty routine. It was pretty much just self tanner, mascara, water and Aquafor. That's all well and good, but I think it's worth tooting my own horn that I've made some great strides in become more of a grown up, and using more (and fancier!) products. That's a sure sign of adulthood, right? Products?

The reality is that I take my appearance a little more seriously now that I'm living in New York, because everyone else does. You never know who you might run into on the street.

It could be Anna Wintour. It could be someone who could get you a job. It could also be some guy you dated 6 months ago and thought you'd never see again, especially at 10 a.m. on a Sunday.

Bottom line, I try to look presentable every time I leave my apartment. (Try.) I'm no Emma Stone, but the power of a bold lip is not lost on me.

Whether it was swag from an event, the gentle push from a friend or taking after the tried and true methods of  my mom, I've developed a

  • KMS Hair Play Makeover Spray: My roommates and I are obsessed with this stuff. It's essentially a dry shampoo, and it's a godsend when you're going out for drinks or to an event after work - especially if you have bangs! It revives and de-greases and smells amazing. Boom.
  • KMS Free Shape Quick Blow Dry: I had no idea such a product existed, but now I'm in love. I spray this on my towel-dried hair before blow drying and it actually makes the process quicker. Seriously. My hair goes half-way down my back so trust me - I know.
  • Fekkai Advanced Full Volume Styling Whip: My flat, straight brown hair is naturally anything but voluminous. I've tried so many plumpers and mousses and sprays and tricks - and nothing has worked as well as this whip. I run it from through my hair with my fingers from roots to mid-shaft just before blow drying and that's it. Lift, body, boom.
  • Twistband hair ties: Ever since I was reconnected with a sorority sister who works for the brand, I've become unabashedly obsessed with these ties that double as a great (colorful) wrist accessory. They hold my hair and as promised, don't dent it!

  • Benefit They're Real! Mascara - Oh, how I love this mascara. It's bold, adds curl and doesn't clump. It rivals Dior Show for drama and volume, and costs just a teense bit less, which makes it a win for me.
  • Revlon Grow Luscious Mascara - This is hands-down the best drugstore mascara I have ever used. I'm not sure if it's actually helping my lashes grow, but I get a lot of compliments on my lashes when I wear it, which is almost daily. This mascara makes my lashes long, thick and kind a rather shiny, glam shade of black.
  • Benefit Instant Brow Pencil - Confession: I have a hole in one of my eyebrows sometimes. I don't know why, but a couple of really important hairs just - I don't know - jump out of my head. This wax-y pencil fills them in perfectly, and the comb on the opposite end puts everything in it's place.
  • Benefit ChaCha Tint - Pretty, pink, understated. A dab on each apple is all you need.
  • Prestige Bronzing Powder in 'Sunkissed' - I've been using this bronzer for years and I swear by it. I've had Nars, I've had other brands, and this one is inexpensive, effective and lasts quite a few months. Just the right tint for my sometimes olive, mostly just white skin.
  • Prestige Waterproof Eyeliner in black - My mom started me on this drugstore brand pencil years ago. It's thick, creamy and goes on jet black, and stays put all day and night. As with most waterproof products though, it can be a pain to remove.
  • NARS 'Heat Wave' matte lipstick: You guys have heard me go on and on about this lipstick in other posts so I won't beat a dead horse. This color is punchy and fun and (so I've heard) looks good (but a little different) with every skin tone. I'm devoted and obsessed. [PS: I'm also a fan of Schiap...]

*Disclaimer: I wasn't propositioned to review any of these products by their respective brands or PR firms. I did however receive products from Revlon, KMS and Benefit after attending events, which I then tried out at my leisure.

  1. We have the same hair. I can't wait to try your products!

  2. Love this post - Great round up of products. And I agree: Products + Adulthood. I remember watching my mom get ready in the morning & being SO excited to be old enough to wear makeup and have drawers filled with products. :)

  3. Really cute blog! I love the title of it; it cracks me up. :) Follow me back if you'd like!

  4. Your posts always crack me up. I too have the missing eyebrow hairs. What a drag. Your makeup routine is working for you, though, as you always look lovely in your posts!

  5. I LOVE the shirt you're wearing in the bottom right photo, could you please share where you got it and what brand it is? Thank you!
