the Maison Martin Margiela x H&M party...

My new absolute favorite thing? A confetti drop.

Taking a break from the madness somewhere on the fifth floor of 5 Beekman Street, Chelsea and I had to have a moment. All around us revelers were chatting and drinking as music played and confetti fell 10 stories. We had all journeyed to the financial district for the Maison Martin Margiela x H&M party. It was one of those occasions where we just had to take a breath and acknowledge how cool it can be to live in New York, and work in the industry that we do. This was the place to be last night, and we were fortunate enough to be a part of it.

There were art installations, live performances, dance parties and bars on every floor. Models, editors, socialites and the usual party people were mingling around us, climbing the stairs between floors and keeping an eye out for Kanye West, Julianne Moore, Sarah Jessica Parker and a few other celebs who were apparently in the house. (We didn't see any of them, of course, but we did briefly rub shoulders with Chromeo...)

One of the performances introduced the collaboration pieces with modern "dance" displays on white sand platforms, where the dancer/models sort of writhed around and took off the pieces and left them haphazardly about, from shoes with plexiglass wedge heels to blazers and jeans. It was minimalist and a little bizarre, which is I suppose pretty par-for-the-course with MMM.

After the performers had snaked their way from the second to the sixth floor or so, there was a final dance on the ground floor, also in sand, which concluded with the confetti drop and then swelled into a crazy light show and an all-out multi-floor dance party that I'm guessing continued well into the night. Chelsea and I ducked out around 11 pm, just in time to get drenched by the surprise storm that rolled in while we were busy enjoying ourselves. New York for you - one minute you're living in a Ke$ha song - the next you're just another drowned rat trying to hail a cab.

*Thanks to Duncan, you can read more about the history of the venue here.
