{outfit post} a little over the top...

Army surplus jacket; American Apparel t-shirt; J. Crew skirt; c/o Coach bag; c/o Westward Leaning shades; vintage and c/o Samantha Wills necklaces.

This weird thing happened last week, as fashion week drew to a close, where all the sudden it felt like fall. I don't want to give Mother Nature too much of an ego boost, but the weather since then has been truly perfect. The mornings have been crisp and breezy, but so bright and sunny that you still only need one layer to feel comfortable. The afternoons then warm up and simmer back down into the same cool-ish mood as the mornings.

Apparently, all it takes is one brush with early morning goosebumps to send my fall shopping urges into overdrive (see yesterday's post). I recently popped into the army surplus store on 8th Street and picked up this camo shirt/jacket for just about $45. I'm planning to wash it a couple times to soften and hopefully shrink it a bit, but clearly I couldn't resist an immediate test-run. Paired with the neon No. 2 pencil skirt from J. Crew I purchased for IFBcon and my trusty American Apparel deep V, I felt perfectly on the fence between summer and fall dressing.

Thanks to my co-worker Amanda, I'm continuing my new love affair with lipstick, and again, with NARS. This is 'Schiap' - and it's very pink. It felt oh-so-right for fashion week festivities, but I don't know how I'd feel about it for everyday wear. If you follow me on Instagram you may have seen that I noted how the pink matched the pink of my Westward \\ Leaning shades rather nicely. Too much?

Saying it out loud, pairing neon and camo sounds really forced and overly-trendy, doesn't it?  However, when I put this jacket on over the skirt and simple tee, I felt like it was a fun, playful way to extend the life of the neon trend into early fall. It's a lot of look - but Fashion Week has a way of making you feel like almost anything goes. (Whether that's a good thing I'm not sure.) Going forward, I can see the jacket working more naturally with my cream cable knit sweater and skinny jeans, or over a simple mini dress and tights in the winter.

PS - I want to ask you all about something, rather candidly, and hope that you can give me some feedback. When I got dressed the morning I wore this, I felt good and very much like myself but with a little added punch for the sake of NYFW. I didn't realize until I sat down to whip up a little post that three of the accessories I'm wearing were gifts of brands. Does that bother you? It gave me pause so I thought I'd just request a little honest feedback from you guys. Let me know in the comments if you feel so inclined, thanks!

  1. Lovely! I love a simple v-neck tee. I wish I never threw away my brothers old camo jacket. It could of been a staple in my closet.

  2. Lovely outfit hun although lace neon, camo print and coral aren't the first things Id put together You look pretty awesome hun and to answer your question I find it amazing that you get gifts from brands it totally doesn't bother me anyway! xox

  3. In love with the color of this j.crew skirt! And no it doesn't bother me, because I know that you're not picking them to wear in your outfit because they're gifted. They go perfectly with your look and it introduces me to other brands and designs.

  4. I actually love the whole thing. Yes, it's over the top, but AWESOME!
Taylor, I wish you'd smile bigger, I know you have it in you.

  5. So okay with wearing gifted things, why shouldn't you be rewarded for entertaining us!?

  6. I am in to your clothing choices, neon, grey & camo...but I feel like you lost me on the accessorizing. A more neutral sunny with a non reflective lens would have been better, and maybe a more utilitarian bag (crossbody?) to tie in with the jacket. That's my feedback. Also - love the proportions of jacket to skirt. oh and no, the gifted nature of the accessories does not offend.

  7. ok i already had a nyfw regret of not hitting up the birch box event, and NOW you have me regretting not going into the army surplus store with you. there's got to be one around me right...? i love it all - love this look!

  8. The gifted thing doesn't bother me at all, you're obviously wearing it because you like it, not because you're trying to make us buy it :) I find it awfully glamorous that companies just send you free stuff. In other words: get it, girl.

  9. I am loving the Coach bag you are wearing with this outfit. It was gifted because it was meant to be worn!

  10. I love this outfit - neon and camo are such a fun, and unexpected pairing. The gifted situation doesn't bother me. Those companies gave you a product because they respect the "brand" that you are making for yourself, and I always appreciate that you style things in a fresh way.

  11. The outfit is perfect! I don't mind a bit that they were gifted. It's enough satisfaction for me that you are wearing them...outside...and they actually compliment your outfit. What's better than clothes? Free Clothes! Kepp it up!
