{reader request} orange county wedding in May...

It's been a minute since we had a reader request on le blog, oui? I've missed them, and this is a perfect question to get back in the swing of things. It comes from a darling girl I used to work with back in Seattle during my Anthropologie days. We always had a great time together working the fitting rooms or folding a million kitschy cardigans during the closing shift. She wrote to me last week with a sartorial conundrum I wish I was faced with, on a lot of different levels. Let's read:

Dear SUILTSOY,

My burning fashion question to you is a doozie. My boyfriend was just invited to an old college friend's wedding in May, and popped the question to me to be his plus one! This was all good and wonderful, until finding out that the wedding is taking place in the heart of Orange County. As a token Northwest girl and Seattlite, I couldn't be at more of a loss of what to wear. The bride used to be quite the tomboy (so I hear), and I myself own a grand total of two pairs of pumps (when you're 5'10, heels aren't really on your must-have list). I'm looking for a few sweet, simple, possibly floral dress ideas, and I'm hoping you can help!

Love, Annalee

Orange County Wedding

Dear Annalee,

First of all, hi! Second, what a tough problem to have! Seriously I feel just - so awful for you. Your sweet boyfriend wants to whisk you away to the sun and salty ocean and palm trees of southern California to have a rockin' good time at his friend's wedding. Boohoo missy, I don't think I've left the island of Manhattan in 3 months. Anyway though, I'm here to help. And as dreamy as that sounds - I do see where you're having a little trouble.

Just because a wedding is in Southern California doesn't mean its going to be all flip flops and tiki torches, but it does mean you'll want to hit just the right note of dressed up and laid back. You can be both, you know?

My first thought for you, being the tall, statuesque lady that you are, is to opt for a maxi dress and fancy flat sandals, with a Pashmina and decadent jewelry. That way you don't have to break out of your comfort zone in uncomfortable and towering heels, and you'll still be appropriately dressed. You could also wear a fun, short shift, a low wedge and add some color pops with a bright bag and statement bangle. Tea-length (mid-calf) is also a breezy, feminine option you could try with a wedge or kitten heel.

I'm sort of obsessed with the above Tory Burch maxi, but there are endless options at a more reasonable price point, and you can find any kind of fun, jazzy jewelry for the perfect price from Bauble Bar.

Good luck and have a blast - and please, send us a postcard!

xo,

Taylor
