homeward bound...

After almost a year away, I'm taking a long weekend and going home to Seattle tonight. I can't tell you how much I'm looking forward to this trip, and how much I need it. I've been fortunate enough to get out of the city every now-and-then over the past year, but I haven't been back to my beloved Pacific Northwest in way, way too long. I've only got four days, and the list of things I want to do, eat, drink and drive (not at the same time, you guys, obviously) is already pretty long.

What? What's that you say? You're dying to know what's on my to-do list? Oh, ok well, if you insist:

  • Drive my 1997 Ford Explorer as much as possible while listening to KEXP. Maybe even sit in traffic on Montlake just so I can take in the view of Lake Union and Lake Washington.
  • Take a walk around Greenlake, at Discovery Park and Magnuson Park Beach with my dog.
  • Have lunch at Le Pichet & shop at Nordstrom downtown with my mom.
  • Have a Whiskey Buck at Liberty.
  • Have an americano (and a pastry) from Cowen Park Grocery, Victrola, Stumptown, and Gretchen's.
  • Enjoy a $2.50 Rainier Beer at Kings.
  • Do some vintage and thrift shopping on Capital Hill.
  • Eat breakfast at Homegrown, Pesos, The Hi Spot, and OddFellows Cafe.
  • Read a hard copy of The Stranger.
  • Catch up with my entire family over a Sunday dinner at my parents' house.
  • Spend a lot of quality hours on the couch with my cat and dog.
  • Drive through the Arboretum to have a margarita or two at Cactus in Madison Park before sunset.
  • Attend a tailgate party for the Washington vs. Oregon football game.
  • Let my BFF host an apartment party for me then bar hop on Capitol Hill with all the friends I haven't seen in ages.
  • Get late night burgers, shakes and fries at Dick's Drive-In
  • Indulge in a scoop from Molly Moon's.
  • Split an order of beignets from Toulouse Petit.
  • Sit around the kitchen table with my parents for breakfast, lunch and dinner as many times as I can.
  • Drive my car some more.

  1. You need to check out PoDog too. If you like hotdogs that is. Yummy. Whenever we get to Seattle we go to Ivars in Fremont. My husbands family lives on Mercer Island and we love it there. Have fun! Hope Mt. Ranier makes an appearrannce for you.
