{outfit post} indian summer...

My life in New York City has pretty much been a non-stop landslide of "firsts" since I arrived. My favorite so far? Experiencing seasons in a new place for the first time. Summer here was humid and sweltering, and I doubt if I've ever been as hot as I was inside the subway stations in July. Even in Arizona. In August. I'm serious. Anyway, October is in full swing, and Fall is just sort of flirting with the city right now. A chilly breeze here, a rain storm there, but most of the time, it's been day after day of indian summer. My first, actually!

On a particularly warm and sunny Saturday last weekend, while one of my bffs Megan was in town visiting, she and Tully and I took full advantage and spent a few lazy hours roaming Central Park. It was wildly crowded of course, but we gossiped and took silly photos and tried to name every movie and TV show that had been shot at every place we walked by.

My outfit certainly isn't the busiest or the fanciest, but I think it's worth showing an easy way to achieve transitional season-appropriate dressing. Just because the calendar says it's October, doesn't mean you have to wear a down coat. Or Uggs. That's right - I've seen you out there on the streets of New York, and you have totally jumped the gun. When it's actually cold, we can talk. Anyway, onto my outfit...

Gap boyfriend button down; Seven For All Mankind homemade jorts; Sam Edelman shoes; c/o Kooba "Asher" handbag; Betsey Johnson scarf; Marc by Marc Jacobs sunglasses, MK boyfriend watch, vintage bracelets and gold chain.

Having a silly moment on "The Mall" where just about everyone from Gossip Girl to Sex and the City to You've Got Mail to When Harry Met Sally filmed a scene or two...

Indian summer dressing is a little tricky - I made a rule that it's essential to acknowledge both seasons. I decided to wear a lightweight but Fall-hued button down, with 74 degrees-appropriate jorts and sandals. In case a delightfully chilly breeze popped up, I tossed a printed scarf in my bag as well.

I totally agree with you about jumping the gun on the uggs! I'm out here in San Francisco where it's 75 degrees in October and I see people wearing uggs. Enjoy the warm weather people!

  3. A friend just shared your site with me and it's very cute! I live just outside of the city and can't believe some of the outfits I've seen people sporting lately. I have a hard time deciding what to wear, but I'm sure as hell not busting out my heavy heavy winter coat just yet. So sometimes it gets a bit chilly :)

I like this look by the way. Very chic!
