the new york necklace...

Saturday in Seattle was another strange mix of sun, rain and ominous clouds. My mom and I decided to make the most of it and have a little date. We had late lunch at Le Pichet, my favorite restaurant, then did a little shopping. Our last stop was a vintage & consignment store we love called Le Frock on Capitol Hill. Every time I go in there I find some kind of treasure. It's where I found my Betsey Johnson chain as well as a few other gold baubles.

This time around, as I combed the sparkling tangles of necklaces, earrings, bangles and broaches, the salesman said, "Here, I think you might like this." I turned around, and literally squeeled. I made t-rex arms (Karina!) and my hands became grubby little paws. Behold:

Couldn't you just die!? I knew I had to have it the moment I laid eyes on it. When the salesman fastened it around my neck and I felt the weight of the faux jewels and saw how they sparkled, all I could think was, "This necklace is perfect for New York!"

Suddenly I was in my own movie montage, imagining the necklace and I having a happily ever after in a calvelcade of perfect ensembles...

Then came the scary part. I turned to the salesman and sighed. "How much is it?" I asked nervously. The salesman looked at me as if to say, "Giiiirl, who are you kidding?" and actually said, "Twenty-eight bucks. You have to have it."

As it turns out, the necklace isn't some long forgotten vintage piece, but a cast aside current piece by BCBG. As much as I would have loved to trot around town bragging about my fabulous new vintage find, I doubt I'd be able to afford the real thing. So in the meantime, and perhaps forever, this bejeweled behemoth will have to do.

I'll post an outfit with the necklace soon, I'm so obsessed I want to wear it everyday. I wore it while vacuuming the house on Sunday, but you didn't need to see that.
