from my closet to yours...skirting the issue

Banded Spaghetti Top, $5.80; and Short Linen Skirt, $15.80, both at Forever 21

The other day I was in a bind. I had great social plans for that evening and nothing to wear. Everything in my closet looked wrong, wrong, wrong. I couldn't splurge on anything big (and it was a Wednesday, afterall) but I also couldn't shake the desire to make a minor purchase. Luckily, the sartorial gods were on my side that day. My very stylish and shop-savvy friend admited that she had experienced a very fruitful outing to Forever 21 the night before.

Fueled by a few happy hour cocktails, she dropped - well, let's just say - a significant amount on some great summer pieces. In my rather crazed state, this was all i needed to hear to push me over the edge. Literally five minutes later I was zipping down Lake City Way, filled with visions of the perfect fix to end this extremely serious situation.

Thirty minutes and $25 later, it was over. I was at peace. Swinging that hideous yellow plastic shopping bag from my arm into the passenger seat, I was ready for the night ahead and still had plenty of cash to spare for libations.

I know it doesn't look like much, but its amazing what you can do with a couple new basics and your old stand-bys. I tucked the white tank into the skirt (which has my favorite detail of the moment: pockets) and layered on three vintage gold chain necklaces of varying lengths that I wear all the time. To keep it casual, I wore my everyday, brown, flat, Steve Madden T-strap thongs and threw my belongings into the Paris clutch. Voila.
